**Make sure when you install the above programs that you run the update first before scanning to make sure you have the latest definitions library to combat newer spyware / adware / malwares.

Windows Updates
Microsoft Windows Updates - make sure you stay on top of security and critical updates from Microsoft.  These are released to protect your PC as well and fix any known bugs in the operating system.  I strongly suggest you check monthly to make sure you're up to date.  Those of you one dialup, it may take awhile or maybe even an overnight download but I suggest you not skip this step.  http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

*Some good housekeeping practices on your PC will assure that it's running as best it can.  Run both Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag once a month to make sure you're getting the fastest access to your data as possible.  If you are unsure where these two programs are located on your PC, just follow this simple path to find them - Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools = they both are there.
